Country Music Goodness

It was so fun watching the CMA awards last night. I curled up on my couch out of the rain to enjoy the show. I did have a few favorites from the winner’s category. Darius Rucker winning New Artist of the Year made me very happy and also Brad Paisley’s winning Male Vocalist of the Year. Sugarland has long been a favorite of mine so I was excited to see them take home at least one award, winning Vocal Duo of the Year. One of my favorite new songs this year was “I Run to You” by Lady Antebellum so I was happy to see them win Single of the Year for that song. I will admit that I am not a Taylor Swift fan. I don’t have anything against her as a person but I don’t really like her music. She won a lot of awards last night and I applaud her entertainment skills but I’m still not a fan.

As always I enjoyed the performance by Ms. Carrie Underwood. That girl has some great vocals. I am so impressed at how mature her voice is at such a young age. You go girl! Another great performance was by the Zac Brown Band. Their performance of “Devil Went Down to Georgia” was great. Some of my other favorite performances included Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker, and Brad Paisley! Even though he performed, one guy I wish I could have seen more of was Keith Urban but it was nice to see him and Nicole Kidman rocking the red carpet.

As you may know I am a huge advocate for helping others whether through serving hands on or just supporting a non-profit organization. I loved that NASCAR and country music came together to raise money for the USO by auctioning off an autographed Chevy. It is great to see all of the support!

Helping Hands

I will be walking in the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Give Thanks 5k Walk on November 21st. My fundraising goal for this event is $500. Thanks to friends and family I am very close to reaching that goal. However, there is still a little bit more to go. Please do what you can to help me raise the rest and help an amazing organization helping so many children. www.mygivethankswalk.org/ashaffer

The Start of Something New

This is my first official blog. In college I created a blog for a class I was taking but never really stuck with it. I am excited about this because I am not exactly sure where it is going. At first the blog will probably be a combination of life events, health and fitness, and family and friends. I think the blog will evolve to focus on one of these areas but for now I am just going to have fun with it. I hope this will help me to connect with family and friends and also meet new people. Don’t forget to Smile!
